EX100 Five Diptych's if you dare

It is that time of the year again to announce our January Exercise. Xmas and January is when we at Len’s Club go quiet so we can spend time with our families and take a break. Earlier this year we did the project of nine with great success. So in a similar vane we are offering up a big project during this break for you to contemplate and work on.

None of us are able to work as hard as we have this year without a break. It will be good for us all to take a breather.

Five Diptych’s if you dare

We have had diptych as a weekly exercise previously. You can revisit that here

https://www.lensschool.com/content/ex65-diptych

Your ultimate goal, if you wish to accept our challenge, is to create a series of five diptychs that work together as a series. You could look at this exercise as ‘creating a series of ten images that are presented in pairs’.

You may wish to have a look at our project of nine from last January https://www.lensschool.com/content/a-project-of-nine-in-january-2020

We did a couple of videos as well where I discussed every entry in detail. https://www.lensschool.com/content/project-of-nine-feedback-and-results

If this is a bit overwhelming, we are encouraging you to just work on diptychs as finished pairs. This is about choosing your level of challenge to match your own skill level.

We thought that printing out some of our favourites last year was a great reward, so….

We will be offering some encouragement rewards too.

For a series of five diptych’s that are resolved as one series:

These include publishing our favorite series or two in our yet to be released Len’s Journal Magazine. We are also offering three of my scarves as encouragements for other captivating full series’s.

For great diptych’s we offer the following encouragement rewards too:

We will then select a further three diptychs to print onto A2 cotton rag paper to send to you for you to frame and keep.

We will kick off the 2021 season of classes with a discussion about this exercise on

Tuesday 2nd February 2021 at 11 am Sydney time.

The criteria for consideration for publication in our new and exciting journal is that they all work as one long series, each published as two photographs on each double page spread. You will be furnished with a copy of that particular issue that you are featured in.

The criteria for being selected for one of the other prizes is a beautiful diptych that captures our attention and keeps it. This is inline with my belief that a great photograph captures our imagination and attention for a longer period of time that others.

I hope that this gives you a wider range of options to explore. If you are new to working on a series, perhaps just resolving one diptych and entering it may be a sufficiently challenging task. And we would love to to see it, and it may even be one of the ones that gets printed. Please feel free to enter between one to five diptychs.

For those wishing to take the challenge further, working on a bigger series where all of the photographs talk to each other in a gorgeous conversation please enter five diptychs’ as your entry. It is from those that take up this advanced challenge that we will be choosing from to include as a featured artist in our new magazine.

Guidelines

  • Only one prize will be awarded to one person, so that the prizes are spread around our lovely Len’s Club community

  • You may enter between one and five diptych’s

  • To be considered for publication in Len’s Journal the five diptych’s must all talk to each other and be a complete body of work.

  • There will be two posts in the Len’s Club Forum. One for getting feedback and discussing the works. The other will only be made available a week before on the Tuesday the 26th January 2021 which you must post your entries in for consideration for the prizes. No comments or discussion is allowed in this post. Hence we are keeping the discussion for the working post rather than the entry post.

  • Len’s Club will post the encouragement prizes anywhere in the world to you.

  • We will need full size images from you if we are to publish or print your work, you will be able to provide this at a latter date.

Terms and Conditions of Entry

  1. This is just for fun.

  2. Our decisions are final and are based on opinions and feelings not objective measures.

  3. No financial remuneration will be provided for the works published. You also have the right to refuse publication. Copyright is always held by the artist. Appropriate attribution will be always given.

  4. We would love to feature some of your work in our Len’s Journal digital Newsletter, but we will ask you individually for your permission.
