EX120 Contrast

There are many different types of contrast. Each works differently and is used to bring attention to or take attention away from various elements in your photographs.

The types of contrast are:

  • tonal

  • colour or hue

  • saturation

  • line

  • texture

  • sharpness / softness / bokeh / blurr

  • detail

  • shape

  • edges

In software, we can control tonal contrast a few different ways:

  • Contrast = global adjustments

  • Clarity = mid tone contrast

  • Texture = fine grain contrast

  • Tone Cure adjustments = global adjustments

  • Specific local adjustments with various tools, like the paint brush

Choose one of the types of contrast and play with it this week. See if you can really concentrate on it.

Post four photographs, all in one photograph, to show us what you were working on.

Post one of these photographs larger, and for a change, you choose which one you would like us to discuss for you. Post this one larger.

My four contrast photographs. I took a screen shot of them in lightroom to post them as one image
