EX179 Project planning
With Len touring lutruwita (Tasmania) and takayna / Tarkine in particular, over this month it is time to give the weekly challenge group a project to work on. We will meet next week as usual to discuss and see your starting ideas.
EX178 Multiples, diptychs and more
This week we are reinforcing and revising the work in the last three weeks, by exploring multiples and adding photographs onto one page…
EX177 Blending Photographs
In this weeks exercise we are exploring and practicing blend modes more…
EX176 Multiple Exposures with Blend Modes
In this weeks exercise we experiment with Blend Modes. We do this either in camera, on your phone or in software.
EX175 Make a poster or book cover using two fonts
Working with two fonts makes words and text that goes with your photographs more interesting.
EX174 Adding words to diptychs
Adding words to diptychs is an important skill to work on. Well it is if you wish to make books. Consider the text as a design element, rather than just asking where do they fit in.
EX173 Laying out diptychs
In this weeks exercise we play with the layout for the same two photographs as diptychs.
EX172 Auditioning
Auditioning artworks or looks may be a better way to think about how your sort your images or process variations. Try them out. This weeks exercise explores this.
EX171 New split tone combinations
This weeks exercise asks you to explore creating new split tones and sharing them with the group.
EX 169 portrait or landscape orientation
Photograph the same subject in vertical and in horizontal formats. Use only the 8 x 10 aspect ratio. Do not just crop the same image both ways.
EX168 High Key | Low Key
Can we make high and low key images from the same subject or is it impossible. This weeks exercise we explore and see what we can find.
EX167 Selectively adding highlights and whites to a low key image
Len’s Class has a new time slot and format… Nine thirty am Tuesdays. The mystery presentation will now be apart of the class, and will no longer be given at night.
This weeks exercise is about selectively adding brighter bits to low key photographs.
EX166 Are blacks needed in high key artworks
Does a high key image need a black point? In this weeks exercise we experiment with this.
EX165 Intentional Over Exposure
This week we explore intentional over exposure to create some high key images.
EX164 The Diptych Project
Our summer project is about creating 6 diptychs in a cohesive project. As usual we have lots of encouragement awards of beautiful books. Due 31st January 2023.
EX163 Monochrome processing part 2
In my exuberance for the live stream I simply plan forgot to set a weekly exercise. After the show was all packed up I just walked away from the studio and computer.
So for that my sincerest apologies.
For Len’s Class on the 13th December I will continue to process the photographs that were uploaded last week for the show. It will be an opportunity to ask as I am processing what I am doing, and why, and even to make suggestions so we can try things. See EX162
Please note that this will be the last Len’s Class for the year, and I will be on a break until the end of January. As with what has happened for the past three years, we will be running a project challenge during that period, and we have procured a number of books to offer as encouragement awards. I will announce more next Tuesday. Tuesday nights presentation will be as scheduled.
Kindest regards
Len
EX162 Monochrome Processing
Lens Class will be a live stream on youtube on Tuesday the 6th December 2022 at 11 am Sydney time. Len will be processing your colour photographs into monochrome. This is open to anyone in Len’s Club. The final files can be provided to you afterwards if you wish. Please join us for our first attempt at live streaming a show.
EX161 Contrasts
This exercise will continue over a number of weeks, each week we will explore a different contrast.
EX160 a reflection mini project
Taking on the knowledge from the discussion about reflections, now work on a series that pushes yourself harder that explores reflections further.
EX159 Reflections
In this weeks exercise we are going to explore and discuss reflections as a creative compositional tool.
