EX145 Photographing to a beat

I have been enjoying photographing to a one second beat in my high resolution mode of my camera. Each of the eight images can be exactly one second apart. It really helps be create more random work.

In Sophie Howarth’s book, ‘The Mindful Photographer’ she offers an exercise to help us with ‘improvisation’ skills.

A PHOTO EVERY MINUTE - Go for a twenty minute walk, taking one photo every minute on the minute. No delays. No second chances.

I think a minute is an arbitrary figure. So last night I went searching for a metronome. These are a clicking device that we use as musicians to help keep in time. You can set them to different times. I downloaded one for my phone, and it allowed me to set it at ten beats per minute. This translates to every six seconds.

I tried again with google and found a youtube video with a one minute interval timer.

So I don’t think the actual interval is as important as is doing the exercise at set interval and going with it.

Try one or the other for twenty minutes and see what happens.

Post three photographs from your twenty minute walk and tell us about what happened for you during this exercise.

Post your three photographs in our forum here https://lensclub.discussion.community/post/ex145-photographing-to-a-beat-12349644?pid=1332590841#post1332590841
