EX44 The power of the center

The very center of a photograph is very very powerful. The geometric center, found by drawing two diagonal lines across each corner to find the very optical middle of the photograph.

Kodak used to tell us in their film boxes, not to put objects in the very center of the photograph. Implying that by using an off center composition things would work better. Why do you think they said that?

The very center of the photograph is rarely talked about in terms of composition.

It is often left blank, unattended too. It is often full of negative space.

Sometimes someone is bold enough to put something directly in the very center of the photograph.

This week I want you to not only try it, but to be extremely accurate in your post capture crop. Making sure that you put the center of the attention, right at the center of the photograph.

Lets see what happens?

Is it indeed a powerful place in the artwork, or is kodak right in telling people to avoid it. What do you think?

When is it good to use the Center and when is it better leave it alone.

Post your photographs in the comments bellow.
