EX108 Soft Light Hard Light - Going further

Now that you can identify the two different light sources. You may even have discovered you have a preference for one. Which one is that? Which one do you lean towards and which one do you shy away from?

So if you feel like pushing yourself, choose the one you dislike.

If you would rather go with the one you prefer, that is ok too.

You have a fortnight before this exercise is due.

We have been talking about how they work, the two different types of light. We have also discussed how they are a continuum and there is so many different variations.

The exercise is simple. Create yourself a mini project in a particular light and really work it. See if you can learn to see it, understand it, and really explore it.

The subject of your project is totally up to you… I’d always suggest continuing with your current loves.

Please feel free to combine this with other ideas and techniques you are playing with.

This could be multiple exposures for examples, or playing with painterly.

Post five photographs as a resolved series. Meaning that they all are friends, they talk to each other, and get along as a group. Each photograph helps the whole group of photographs. You may even like to consider how they are presented as a group of five. Feel free to post a mock layout too, and the photographs individually.
