Len majored in photography and minored in printmaking when studied at at the City Art Institute, formerly Alexander Mackie, now COFA (College of Fine Arts, UNSW).
Photogravure combines traditional intaglio printmaking with photography. Len transfers his photograph to a plate and creates tiny holes and indentations. These are filled with ink, and the plate is wiped clean, then it is printed in an etching press with pure carbon ink.
Etchings printed this way last thousands of years, much like Rembrant’s etchings are as beautiful today as the day he made them.
Printed on Arches Velin Cream paper, this edition is delicate and very finely detailed. This paper is reference paper in the art world since 1492, in that all other high end manufactures have followed.
Charbonnel Etching ink in Sepia. A 100% natural ink. Used and trusted by artists such as Renior, Degas, Lautrec and Picasso. Today it is used by artists such as Rauschenberg and Hockney.
