an exhibition not to be missed
It was such an incredible privilege to open Clair and Amanda’s exhibition last Thursday evening. I was so nervous speaking, for some reason. I so I am guessing that was nothing on how Clair and Amanda felt. So much attention in one evening. Their attention was well deserved.
I decided to compare the show to the Sydney Biennale that I only recently had wandered around. An exhibition that is considered one of the leading contemporary art events that presents innovative, and thought provoking art from Australia and around the globe. I have been attending this event since the eighties, and it was one of the most uninspiring and disappointing ones I have seen. Actually all of them that I have seen in recent years lacked anything that stopped me in my tracks to say wow, that is amazing. They used to wow me, and amaze me, and stimulate me, but alas no longer.
Comparing the show Echoes of Silence to was too easy, as this show had many things that seem to be lacking in lots of contemporary art. That is the artworks in this show were aesthetically beautiful, exceptionally well crafted, intellectually engaging and emotionally moving. It had all of the things that I keep aching for in contemporary art.
There is so much in this show if you stop to look. So many themes and ideas. Lots of directions.
Most importantly, it is engaging. You must go. You have until the 10th August, and it a short walk from Homebush Railway Station at the Ironbark gallery, in Strathfield Library.
Here are a few snaps I took, except for the one of me talking which was taken by Amanda’s mum which details Clair and Amanda’s hair rather beautifully, and the one of the all the officaldom, by the organisers.
