In this presentation Len introduces us to the West Coast Photographic Movement in America. He shows us some of the photographs that were taken during that movement.

Surrealism has its roots in psychology and the political times of world war one. It is often tied to the DADA art movement. In this presentation Len takes us on a journey through some important surrealist artists and finishes on Man Ray’s surrealist photography.

There is a correction, Lee Miller and Man Ray, were the first to use solarisation as a creative expression in art. It was a known effect throughout the history of photography.

Len shows us the differences between global contrast, mid tone contrast and textural contrast. He shows us other forms of contrast with some paintings and photographs.

Len challenges to consider dreaming as a source of inspiration. He shows us how helpful dreams can be to us as artists, and makes suggestions on how to recall dreams. He challenges us to use ‘morning pages’ to clear our minds at the beginning of each day.

A shorter presentation about the Muse. Len asks does a muse have to an external force? Perhaps a muse is anything that gets you excited about your art?

Len asks us about the three types of photography. Subject driven, technique and craft driven and contemplative photography. In this presentation he shows us some of the greats in the history of photography whilst discussing subject driven and technique driven photography.

Len asks us what our artistic voice is about. He challenges us to stop and consider what it is really trying to say. What stories are being told?

Len talks about perfection and imperfection.

Len demonstrates how you can modify colours in Lightroom with some of his work. Taking an abstract approach to colours, by letting go of the notion of true and accurate colour. Len takes colours and plays with them.

Len talks though some points that Koos De Wilt makes and adds to his previous presentation on thinking like an artist. This presentation is illustrated with Len’s recent photographs from the Leura Abstract Retreat of monochrome trees.

Len explores the book “Think like a street photographer’, by Matt Stuart, and illustrates the points with the work of Walker Evans.

Beliefs shape who we are. The biology of belief is now a cellular biological phenomenon based on the work of Bruce Lipton. We are what we believe we are. In this presentation, Len discussed a little bit of the theory of how our cells are controlled by our thoughts and environment. Len asks us to consider what Limiting Beliefs we have about our photography, and how we may consider ones that may be stopping us for truly exploring our creative selves.

Len discusses a chapter from Bruce Barnbaum’s book ‘The Art of Photography’ on approaching creativity intuitively.
