The Colorado Way: A Book of Mountains, Trails, and Growth
Matt Payne has just launched a kickstarter campaign for his latest book. He is aiming to print 2000 copies of his 232 page book. The book is the creative culmination of walking the Colorado Trail, photographing, reflecting and writing whilst walking the 500 miles Denver to Durango.
For those of you who don’t know Matt, he runs a fascinating and insightful podcast called ‘F Stop and Listen’ which I have been a guest on twice over the years. I will link to the two episodes bellow.
The interesting thing about this book, is that Matt has been talking to photographers for years, 437 episodes as of today, and underneath his passion and shared interest in landscape photography, is someone with extensive study and knowledge of psychology.
As Matt puts it: “Each of the 25 essays is rooted in personal experience and backed by psychological insight, offering meaningful reflections on everything from resilience and vulnerability to solitude, gratitude, and finding purpose.”
Essays in The Colorado Way
Now these intriging and insightful essays are accompanied with over 140 images, which as you can easily see are rather beautiful.
The Colorado Way: A Book of Mountains, Trails, and Growth, is beautifully crafted blend of photography, personal essays, and reflections on creativity and presence. The book goes beyond scenic imagery to explore themes of authenticity, discomfort, and growth through both words and visuals. Running from September 5 to October 5, the campaign aims to raise $20,000 to fund an initial print run of books, with backers offered exclusive rewards including limited-edition prints, mentoring sessions, and digital tools for outdoor adventurers.
Oh and just incase you’d like to listen to me talk to Matt, here are the links to the two episodes I am in.
