artist books and zine making

I have been having so much fun lately making artists books and zines. They become easier and easier to make the more I explore them. I am so so pleased with how they are growing and developing. I have been trying out different ways to see which is the easiest for you to make yourself.

I have particularly fallen in love with ones printed on a single sheet of paper, printed, cut and folded. They are then either glued or sewn into covers.

Today I tried a new zine that is printed on one side and folded into a 16 page book. It doesn’t fold as neatly as I’d like, but it is rather beautiful nether the less.

Everyone who made a little book with me at Hill End, walked away with the biggest smile and a beautiful little book.

I have added two one day artist book and zine making workshops. These are meant as a simple introduction to making your own books at home. One is online and in February and the other is in person at my studio in early December. I will supply all the specialist materials either at the studio or will post them to you for the online version. So by the end of the workshop you will have a few books made.

https://lenmetcalf.com/store/p/one-day-bookmaking-workshop If you come to this short course, and then wish to come to our week long workshop / retreat, we will deduct the fee of the day workshop off the longer one. If you are already booked in, we will reach out to you and invite you along gratis.

I am also offering most of my books up for sale. Please just email me and we can easily post one to you. To make it easier I will add a few into the newsletter. So if you like any of these and would like one, please just reply to this email or use the contact form at the website. I really need to do a proper edition of one. Which one should I do first?
