Lyre Bird Dell

Leura

Lyss and I went for a wander to Lyre Bird Dell, at Leura, in The Greater Blue Mountains World Heritage Area last Sunday. It is so different to what it looks like in this photograph that I took in 1999. Things always change, and nature is no exception. I think this fern tree was washed away a few years later and the waterfall of tiny ferns has also retreated. In fact you’d be hard pressed to even see that it’s the same place as it looks so different now.

National Parks has done a beautiful job of replacing the tracks. I was also reminded there’s a lovely picnic cave here too and the tables and chairs have been replaced too.

Back in the day, I was trying to add a unique image for each tourist location. This was to be my poster image for Leura. Leura is my home town. For I have so many memories of growing up here. Much has changed since then, obviously, but I still have intense and passionate memories from this part of the world.
